Mother Moon

by Lisa M. Cole

I am numb
in the undertow

of your trophy hand, &
in lieu of deliverance

the water confesses
to my mother moon.

At this,
she is alarmed.

Trancing, touched, but not sated, I wait—
my breath wide like a billowing sheet.

I watch as the slanted dusk—blind
in one eye—rests itself

across my windowpane, &
to subdue the void,

I claw my way through
sleep’s calamities.
