A Dream Play

Brandon Hansen

You are all final images, flashing
in the eyes of dying heroes in movies,
kids on swings / a thousand minnows in the water.

If I was a dying hero,
I’d see that summer again,
Tuesday noons/the sun gone postal –
the heat that sprinted
us to the library/to the cliffs,
we saw the long path/cut it,
we skipped rocks; we jumped
our guts to the lake
every day.

Brandon Hansen is from a village in northern Wisconsin named Long Lake. He can affirm that, indeed, the lake is long. He also writes.
